Woofs Are Serious, So SeriousThis is something I've said before, but that was probably well over a year ago when there were less people to see it.
I don't want people to stop drawing. Anyone, no matter how doofy or weird.
Bad art is still art, and I love bad art.
I don't hate ANY of the art I redraw or fav. All of it brings a smile to my face and it's always a sadness when it gets deleted due to flooding.
I don't redraw things to "make a statement" or "stick it" to someone, I do it because it's funny to me. And sometimes it's funny to me to redraw something by an obvious bait account or something "not that bad".
None of my work is malicious, it was all done with a light heart.
Woofs are for shits and giggles, a woof is not a weapon.
Bad art doesn't lower DA's quality, NON-art lowers its quality. Screenshots, traced bases, demotivationals, photobucket dumps, these are anti-art. Nothing new was created, only submitted. In the case of traced bases; de-created and submitted.
So please settle down a bit when you

Posting online is like dancing in a busy streetBefore you share anything online; be it art, photograph, or commentary, you should sit there and just envision this scenario:
"EVERY PERSON ON THE INTERNET EVER IS GOING TO SEE THIS."
And really picture what people who don't know you, and don't care to know you, would say.
Then prepare yourself for it.
Because as terribly unlikely as that particular scenario is; your DA profile, journal, and gallery are still not your private little getaway of the internet for you and your buddies.
And you never know when something you did or said will be featured somewhere with a much bigger (and louder. and meaner.) audience than you're used to.
SO, The Sims 3 PetsThe demo is out. It's free to download, and pretty awesome. http://www.thesims3.com/content/en_US/promo/pets/pets.htm
Creating a pet is soooooo...I don't even know what word to use. Open?
You can drag patterns around, rotate them, shrink and stretch them to any size, have infinite layers. Also, there's horses.
Basically: There is NOTHING you cannot recreate. Short only of a literal brush tool, this thing is goddamn photoshop.
And you can do this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v26/Ratty/whatthefuck.png
You should recreate your sparkledog, or the sparkledog of another, and upload it to the sims exchange.
I created Original Character. Unfortunately, it refuses to screencap. It just gives me a black box. I don't know if it's just me, or if EA is just really good at sabotaging any chance they get at additional exposure.
All I managed to do was bootleg record my desktop and get this sorry excuse of an image: http://i55.tinypic.com/2efqh49.jpg

Internet TimeWe had the Oscars recently and as usual it wasn't without problems. One of the controversies was Chris Rock's biting commentary about doing voice work for animated films, which was unfortunately insulting to the many hard working (yet perpetually unknown) talents who produce about 90% of all voice work in the animated medium. Chris Rock's joke was funny for his circle of friends and the aging academy, but to younger artists and professionals it was very disrespectful. Voice actress Tara Strong took particular issue with Rock's comment and as we speak his twitter account is no doubt being flooded with angry hate messages and likely racism too... which is very unfortunate. http://www.examiner.com/african-american-entertainment-in-national/tara-strong-attacks-chris-rock-over-oscar-2012-animation-comments-quotes
Other issues, such as glossing over Harry Potter and The War Horse completely and giving a Best Animated Film award to the likes of Rango, just continued to fuel my opin

The Commissioner's Guide to Proper Etiquette tips & tricks to ensure that the artist does not hate your guts after you commission them
Take the time to realize this is aimed at commissioners, not artists. Yes, there are a ton of things artists fuck up on, trust me, I know. Oh, I know. However that alone could be a whole 'nother journal- which I might go ahead and do because I've had frustrating experiences with artists. When I'm talking about bad commissioners here though, I'm talking about the worst of the worst. Why on earth do I think a timid question 3 weeks after your commission was accepted asking about how it's going is "badgering"?
These are things I've witnessed, I'm talking about the horribly entitled, belittling, superior attitude commissioners! The ones that send you a billion notes and PMs asking when their art will be done, and rudely, when it's only been 3 days! So no, I'm not saying artists should step all over you- because trust me, some will. And by god, they sh

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SONIC THE HEDGEHOG! <3To start this off, HAPPY 21ST BIRTHDAY SONIC THE HEDGEHOG!
Considering all the hype I caused by asking people what Sonic meant to them, naturally, people began asking what Sonic meant to ME. A lot of people know I like Sonic, for more than just his games, but not many people know the details. Not many people know how I met Sonic in the first place or why I got interested and decided to buy Sonic Colours.
And not many people (only one or two I think) know just how much Sonic has helped me through all the rough times in my life.
Just a warning, this is going to be very real. I don't care that I'm talking about a fictional character behind a glass screen. He's so much more than that.
And I hope I don't make anyone cry. I was in tears typing this. :')
I've only known Sonic for about a year and seven months, from the time Colours came out to now. I am rather late to the party. I was actually a Mario fan first, and that was the reason I knew about Sonic, because of their fierce rival
Season finale thoughts.Season finale?
I loved it.
The FiM team is amazing, and I am consistently impressed with the work they do on each episode.
I marvel at the believability they breathe into the world and the characters. From the writing to the music to the animation. Each component is seriously and thoughtfully composed... The emotions of the characters feel genuine, and because the characters take themselves seriously, the viewers connect with them.
Cartoons/animations/comics have immense power... and it makes me so happy to see a cartoon that finally takes that power seriously. Most people dismiss the idea of cartoons being serious, and that is a tragic mistake... Cartoons are symbolic in their expression, and the more "simple" they are, the more symbolic they may become. My Little Pony is the perfect example of this. The designs are simple, but the symbolism is rich with meaning and substance (because the creators care). This is why it is a good show.
Children deserve to be taken serious
Submission Rules and Information (LISTED ARTISTS)*** This journal is for LISTED GUEST ARTISTS ONLY***
Edit: Please remember the deadline is less than a month away! There's still artists yet to choose a category to be in. Remember it's first come first serve.
Theme: Our Earth
This theme will be divided into four subcatagories of colours; green, blue, red/pink and yellow/orange.
For this art book, we would like images depicting nature, our Earth.
Each artist will be catagorised under one colour, and must make the colour their main colour. However any shade of chosen colour is accepted.
Green could be images of forests, summer, spring, jungles, plains etc.
Blue could be winter, oceans, skies, night, water, etc.
Red/pink could be sunsets, flower fields, volcanic environments, fi
I fail at artI was going trough old binders and found some of my ancient "art". Some of it was hilariously bad so of course, being shameless as I am, now it's time to share.
This is how I was drawing when I was a teenager, something around 15-17.
Behold my weaboo phase! Yes, I was drawing animu. I never got a good grip on that style so it's all hideous.
kawaii desu ne?
That hand. That space between eyes. That fabric, hair, expression, composition ...well everything.
The next few images I would call "look at me, imma ahrtis for realz" series.
Deep. Deep as a puddle.
Remember kids. If you fail at anatomy just add random lines. Random ass lines make everything better. Yep.
Just look at this person's face. Don't you want to punch it? I do, so very very much.
Dear, sixteen years old akreon, you fucking suck. Don't ever come back.
Does anyone else remember being a baby?If so, I have a question:
I thought it was pretty common, but I've only met two other people who remember, including my mum. I remember a lot of things from when I was a baby, and from about two year old an onwards, everything is as clear as if it were yesterday.
My question is: Before you could recognize yourself in a mirror, what did you imagine yourself to look like? I thought I was a weird grey toad thing in a tuxedo with massive lips and mickey mouse gloves. But I would like to know what other people thought.
More art is coming, in a bit of a block right now unfortunately.
Commissions Closed // Anya // BBAHello!
Well, I received a lot of commission orders. I want to thank everyone who bought one. I will do my very best to make you a piece that you'll love
The list is pretty long, but I'll be working diligently on them. Thank you for your patience while I work my way down the list to your name.
I'll email you when I begin your piece, so that you will know to expect it soon
I'm also delighted at the positive response to my photos of Anya, my domestic fox.
I will have many more photos and videos to share in a few weeks. She is not living with me as of yet - I had to move to a neighboring city because my old city was telling me that foxes were not allowed (even though they had no actual, written law that said this and therefore no legal grounds to enforce this prohibition on me, but they did anyway).
So I bought a new house (with an acre!) and will be bringing her home to Michigan in early May (shes living with a friend in Florida at the moment). So when she's with me I'll have the op
Entry examplesEdit: Added more examples to clarify that subject matter DOES NOT have to be nature related; could be about culture, people's hobbies, lifestyle. Doesn't have to be natural landscapes!(scroll to bottom please)
We won't be strict about the colour of the characters, objects, but the overall picture must give off the impression of the colour you have chosen. In fact, we encourage you to experiment with colours, exploring the depth of toning and lighting using different kinds of colour!
Here are some examples of what kind of artworks we are looking for in terms of colour composition and quality:
New deviantART ThumbnailsHey folks!
You may remember a while back we showed off some brand new thumbnails in #hq's Journal. Well, after many weeks of porting and tweaking based on community feedback, we finally got these brand new thumbs ready for beta testing!
The new thumbnails
UPDATE (May 19, 2012): Based on feedback received, we've updated the new thumbnails to be justified. Thumbnails are now spaced out across the rows, making them flush against the left and right sides of the page. When a browser's window is too small, justification cannot happen without leaving larger awkward spaces. In these cases, justification is turned off and thumbnails become left aligned. We think these changes present the most appealing interface for both cases.
For those of you who didn't see the new thumbs when they were previewed a month back, here's a re
My favorite ART suppliesI get asked a lot what pens and pencils I use. So I thought I'd post an updated list of my favorites. I'm a big fan of trying new things, I'm always buying lots of different pens to try out and in my search for the best tools to use for creating comics Ive found these to work the best for my needs.
My number one question that others ask me is "What do you ink with?"
I use Kuretake brush pens. Here's a link to a sable hair brush pen that I love, it's the closest thing to a real brush I've used. It is pricey though. http://www.jetpens.com/Kuretake-No.-40-Fountain-Hair-Brush-Pen-Sable-Hair-Refill/pd/3958
The less expensive version is the synthetic hair, http://www.jetpens.com/Kuretake-No.-13-Fountain-Hair-Brush-Pen-Red-Body/pd/2661 this brush pen is similar to a Pentel brush pen. http://www.jetpens.com/Pentel-Pocket-Brush-Pen-for-Calligraphy/pd/1793
The cool thing about these Kuretake brush pens is the refill cartridges have nice ink in them that I use, but if you find you don't like the
Contest: The Lost BBA PageEdit: Thank you to everyone who has entered so far. The entries look great! its very fun to read them. Im going to be judging and posting entries and results Sunday (9th) evening. So, if youre putting finishing touches on your entry - please try to get it to me before then!
Making comics is fun, and everybody can do it, but sometimes a long epic story can be daunting, so maybe you keep putting off starting a comic. How about some practice on a 1 page scene?
Was there ever a scene you thought would be cool and really wanted to be in the BBA comic?
Illustrate a 1 page scene that takes place in the BBA world and has at least 1 BBA character in it. The plot, medium and style are entirely up to you. You may incorporate your own OCs into it too. Absolutely no experience necessary, it's even better if you've never attempted a comic page before!
To enter, please send me a note with subject "contest entry" linking me to your comic.
Deadline will February 7th.
